๐Ÿ›’ Ingredients (for 1 medium loaf)

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour for chewier texture)

  • 2 ยผ tsp (1 packet) instant yeast

  • 1 tbsp sugar (helps yeast rise & gives flavor)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (softened) or oil

  • 1 cup warm milk (or water, about 110ยฐF / 43ยฐC โ€“ warm, not hot)

Step 1: Activate the Yeast (if not using instant yeast)

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm milk/water, sugar, and yeast.

  2. Let sit for 5โ€“7 minutes until frothy. (Skip this step if using instant yeast โ€” just add it directly with flour).


Step 2: Make the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, yeast mixture (or instant yeast).

  2. Add butter/oil.

  3. Mix with a wooden spoon or dough hook until it comes together.

  4. Knead for 7โ€“10 minutes (by hand) or 5โ€“6 minutes in a stand mixer until smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky but not sticky.

    • If too dry โ†’ add 1 tbsp warm water.

    • If too sticky โ†’ sprinkle in a little flour.


Step 3: First Rise (Quick Proof)

  1. Shape dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, and cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap.

  2. Let rise in a warm place for 45โ€“60 minutes or until doubled in size.


Step 4: Shape the Loaf

  1. Punch down the dough to release air.

  2. Roll it into a rectangle, then tightly roll it into a loaf shape.

  3. Place into a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan.


Step 5: Second Rise

  1. Cover and let rise again for 25โ€“30 minutes until dough rises just above the pan.


Step 6: Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).

  2. Bake for 25โ€“30 minutes, until top is golden brown and bread sounds hollow when tapped.

  3. (Optional) Brush hot loaf with melted butter for a soft, shiny crust.


Step 7: Cool & Serve

  • Let bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

  • Slice only after cooling at least 30 minutes (this keeps the inside fluffy).
