Shrimp and Crab Lasagna

Ingredients

Seafood Filling:

  • 1 lb (450g) shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped

  • 1 lb (450g) lump crab meat (fresh or canned, drained)

  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • 1 red bell pepper, diced (optional, for sweetness and color)

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp dried Italian herbs (or a mix of basil, oregano, thyme)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cheese Mixture:

  • 15 oz (425g) ricotta cheese

  • 1 large egg

  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated

  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Cream Sauce:

  • 4 tbsp butter

  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 4 cups milk (warm)

  • ½ tsp nutmeg

  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Other:

  • 9–12 lasagna noodles (boiled until al dente or use oven-ready)

  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese (for topping)

  • Extra parsley for garnish


Instructions

1. Prepare the Seafood Filling

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat.

  2. Add garlic and onion; sauté until soft and fragrant (about 2 minutes).

  3. Add shrimp and cook until pink (about 2–3 minutes).

  4. Stir in crab meat, paprika, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2–3 minutes, then remove from heat. Set aside.


2. Make the Cheese Mixture

  1. In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan, mozzarella, and parsley.

  2. Mix well until creamy and smooth. Set aside.


3. Prepare the Cream Sauce

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.

  2. Add flour and whisk constantly for 1–2 minutes to form a roux.

  3. Slowly whisk in warm milk, a little at a time, until smooth.

  4. Add nutmeg, Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Stir until thickened and creamy. Remove from heat.


4. Assemble the Lasagna

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of cream sauce on the bottom.

  3. Place lasagna noodles in a single layer.

  4. Spread half of the cheese mixture, followed by half of the seafood mixture, and a drizzle of cream sauce.

  5. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with noodles, cream sauce, and mozzarella cheese on top.


5. Bake

  1. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.

  2. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.

  3. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing.


Serving Suggestions

  • Garnish with fresh parsley or basil.

  • Serve with garlic bread and a light salad.

  • A squeeze of lemon over each slice enhances the seafood flavor.
