🌭🧀 Sausage and Cheese Crescent Ring Recipe

🕒 Total Time:

  • Prep: 15 minutes

  • Cook: 20–25 minutes

  • Total: ~40 minutes

🍽️ Servings:

  • 8 servings

📋 Ingredients:

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)

  • 4 oz (about 1/2 cup) cream cheese, softened

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions or chives (optional)

For the Crescent Ring:

  • 2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent roll dough (like Pillsbury)

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)

Optional Garnish:

  • Fresh parsley, chopped

  • Extra shredded cheese (for topping)

  • Dipping sauce (like salsa, ranch, or spicy mustard)

👨‍🍳 Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Step 2: Cook the Sausage

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, add the sausage.

  2. Break it up with a spatula and cook until browned and fully cooked through, about 7–10 minutes.

  3. Drain excess grease if needed.

Step 3: Prepare the Filling

  1. In a large bowl, combine the cooked sausage, cream cheese, and shredded cheddar.

  2. Add garlic powder, black pepper, and any optional mix-ins (green onions, red pepper flakes).

  3. Mix until everything is well combined and creamy. Set aside.

Step 4: Arrange the Crescent Dough

  1. Open the cans of crescent dough and separate them into triangles.

  2. On the prepared baking sheet, arrange the triangles in a circle, forming a ring.

    • The wide ends should overlap in the center to make about a 5-inch circle.

    • The pointed ends will face outward like sun rays.

Step 5: Add the Filling

  1. Spoon the sausage and cheese filling around the circle, over the wide ends of the dough triangles.

  2. Gently lift the pointed ends of each triangle and fold them over the filling, tucking them underneath the center of the ring.

    • Some filling may show through — that’s okay.

Step 6: Brush with Egg Wash

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water.

  2. Brush the top of the crescent dough with the egg wash for a golden, glossy finish.

Step 7: Bake

  • Place in the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.

  • If the ring starts browning too quickly, loosely tent with foil during the last few minutes.

Step 8: Serve

  1. Let the ring cool for about 5 minutes.

  2. Slice into wedges and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

  3. Serve warm with your choice of dipping sauce.

📝 Tips:

  • Make it ahead: You can cook the sausage and prep the filling a day ahead and store in the fridge.

  • Add veggies: Finely chopped bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach can be sautéed and added to the filling.

  • Switch cheeses: Try pepper jack, mozzarella, or Swiss for a different flavor profile.

  • Spice it up: Add jalapeños or hot sauce to the filling for heat lovers.
